My first attempt at wrapping beach glass: views are front, back and a final shot with two other pieces of glass that are in the works. The glass comes from the shores of Bermuda, gifts from some friends who visited the island recently. Genuine beach glass just seems to have a look and a flavor that the craft store glass doesn’t seem to have. The first step is to wrap painter’s tape around the glass to find out the length of wire that is necessary. If any tool junkies read this, imagine my DELIGHT at finding 1/4″ painter’s tape! Apparently it is used by model train hobbyists and it’s a lot easier to manage than regular (ewww!) painter’s tape. After that it’s a question of wrapping, patience and looking forward to the end product.
The total pendant is 2 1/2″ long with a 1/2″ bail. I used 14/20 gold-filled wire which is a high quality gold plating. It should be “good as gold” for 10+ years at least.
I wish I knew the back story of the glass the way I know the story of the pendant. Where did the glass come from? How long was it in the ocean? And if it was part of a message in a bottle as the old pop song goes, then where is the message? Just another story that ties into jewelry making.
