Wire working is a little like cooking. You can follow a recipe (project directions found in magazines and books) or you can just wing it. Of course, if you are an experienced cook or you have completed a few wire projects successfully your chances of a great outcome increase. These lightweight 2 1/4″ inch earrings are a summer classic and a joy to make. The top criss-cross pattern is called a Pippa Knot and was used in an earlier post in a copper bracelet https://www.abellissimo.com/pippa-knots/. Handmade ear wires each have another 4 mm Austrian crystal Wire wrapping can be a relatively cool and simple skill compared to soldering, enameling and other metal techniques, but the reality is that there is no way to compensate for most mistakes. If the maker uses the wrong pliers, doesn’t wrap his/her pliers to avoid marring or simply tries too forcefully to make wire do something it doesn’t want to do, kinks, marring and general chaos result. It’s start over time. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting other pendants and earrings I’ve made with the same technique.
