I’m taking a break from all the wire projects I’ve been doing lately to show you my first fused glass project. It was part of a couple of workshops at the Bullseye Glass Resource Center in Portland OR where I spent my summer vacation.. The colors are much warmer than the blue and turquoise that are my usual go-to colors. The mountains, huge evergreens and the rugged and rainy weather may have influenced me. Bullseye also offered some unusual reactive glass as part of the workshop. What that means in my case is that the turquoise and blues fired into warmer colors. If I read the catalog correctly, it’s because copper, sulfur, silver or lead which can make up the colors react and change when heated. It’s fascinating and fun and a lot more difficult to do at home with a small kiln, minimal glass cutting skills and no instruction, but I’m hooked. Fused glass can make some cool jewelry so I have my work cut out for me.

Fused glass is beautiful and makes me want to get up close and personal. I bet it feels lovely, like satin in one’s hand:)

It’s one of my favorite creations. I’m finally getting back out in the studio and starting to make some more glass so we’ll see what happens.
