Look closely at the top guy. Now take a look at the photo below of the Night King from the TV series Game of Thrones. They look alike. Sure, the king has blue eyes and the big lizard has green eyes but with a little imagination you will see what I see.
A conspiracy theory.
I live in South Florida where iguanas run rampant. They eat all that is good and beautiful: red flowers and colorful native plants. Young iguanas are carnivorous and eat each other and smaller lizards like the little chameleon who is looking for love in the wrong places in the photo below the Night King.
The Night King and Iguanas have the same basic goals: to take over the world and erase human memory. The biggest difference between the two is that The Night King thrived (yes, human ingenuity killed him) in cold. Low temperatures are about the only enemy iguanas have except for a few birds of prey. Each generation of iguanas seems to get a little bigger and adapt to heat and rising water. The end game for iguanas is a new Age of Dinosaurs where humans scurry at their feet and become a new food source for big lizards. Iguanas have patience, evolution and climate change on their sides, and we will never know if The Game Of Thrones predicted the future or was just a fantasy story.
Sweet little traditional chameleon. Photo by Janet Quinn
For folks who grew up in Florida (and a a few nature photographers), watching lizards qualifies as entertainment. Children live closer to the ground, and often see critters as fellow travelers. The chameleon in the last photo was the most common lizard as I was growing up. Apparently they have not been wiped out, according to scientists who study such things. The smaller lizards have simply moved higher in the trees where they are busy breeding. Of course, they could turn into simply another dinosaur species.
Like most conspiracy theories, my lizard connections will never be proved. The best we can hope for going forward is a few dragons on our side to even up the score between humans and reptiles.
