Now that we’ve taken a look at YouTube makeup gurus’ advice for setting up your own channel, we need to face up to the fact that all that wisdom may not be necessary. It’s time to go back to work, and time for those of us who are retired to take our faces out into the world where lighting and filters are cumbersome and sweat-inducing.
High definition is only a problem for those folks who have friends with young eyesight.
Here’s a link to #1 in the two part series on YouTube gurus and makeup informaton.

I’ve included some makeup tutorials from prominent YouTubers (again) that address three problems of aging: hooded eyes, a downturned mouth that is emphasized by bright lipstick and, finally, the hyperpigmentation that is most noticeable on black skin, but afflicts many of us who received too much sun in our youth.
I haven’t read or seen many tutorials for black skin so I picked influencer C Key who has 135,000 followers, strong advertisers and included product recommendations under the “show more tab”.
A major fact check is in order, however, about body and face image and the way social media preys on the insecurities that are built into our perceptions by advertising, social interactions between girls and women and other influences of modern life.
Here is a link to a New York Times Magazine article about young influencer Addison Rae and the toll that being on stage constantly on YouTube and other media takes. It’s long, well-written and probably accurate (my blog is opinion) so you may want to save it for dessert after you take a look at the visuals that make up the rest of this post.

I cannot insert the next two videos so that they start at the beginning. Please drag the positioning bar at the bottom of the page back to the beginning of each post!
Hooded eyes are a major annoyance for older women, but the surprised look afforded by plastic surgery (in addition to the expense and pain) is not the only answer. Here is Angie from Hot and Flashy, an influencer I introduced in my last post, who shows her eyes before and after some makeup sculpting that is surprisingly effective.
The next link his to Lisa Eldridge. She is a UK based makeup artist with her own product line. She is one of the longest running makeup gurus.
And finally, here is C Key who is making up her mother for Mothers’ Day. As her intro screen suggests, Confidence is Key.
